What’s the purpose for the updating:

Figure out the specific reasons that you are updating your bathroom?  It could be because it looks outdated and things are coming apart or just need a fresh look for the space.  After you have discovered the reasons for the renovation then do some research on ideas and how to go about implementing them for your bathroom.  The internet (blogs), design magazines and shows are great for helping out with this process.  Just because you are doing an update in doesn’t necessarily mean “New” but rather beautifully restored work.

Break up the project into smaller parts:

Sometimes, ok let’s be honest we wish we could update or renovate our spaces like we can microwave our frozen foods.  But the reality is there is a process to this system.  So one way to help you get the job done right, not be overwhelming and great for your budget is to break the update into phases.  Such as, replacing the outdated ceramic tiles for one weekend then 2 or 3 weeks later repaint the space, after a bit of time replace some fixtures, and so on and so forth. Plan and keep your goals and budget in check.

Find projects you can do yourself:

If you believe that you pretty good with fixing and repairing things then feel free to take some of the projects that you want done in your own hands.  Check out your local home improvement store or perhaps you have a favorite one already and see if they have workshops or classes that will help you out.  Again, switching outdated fixtures to modern ones for the sink and bathtub/shower area is a good project.  Also, adding backsplash or beadboard paneling to your bathroom walls.

Use what you already have:

Sometimes in the process of remodeling or updating you can forget some of the things you have don’t need to be switched out or replaced just cleaned up.  Such as the floors of your bathroom area.  Now if there hasn’t been water damage or cracked tile then your floors should be in pretty good condition.  If you have things that do not need to be worked on but just polished up then do so.

Updating your bathroom doesn’t have to be as difficult and overbearing as it may seem.  Just follow these tips above on how to set and follow through with a budget for your bathroom and you should be good to go.  A great looking bathroom doesn’t always mean an expensive bathroom yet great planning and simple budgeting!
