Tiles are strong, beautiful, and very durable to be used on any surface. Using them in kitchen will be an excellent choice because they will add functionality to the space and increase the beauty of the interior. However, choosing the right tiles for kitchen can be overwhelming because of the sheer range of available tiles. Check out the guide to have an idea about the factors that will determine the choice of tiles:

Determine the best place for your kitchen tile

You can narrow down the size and material of the tiles depending on where they will be used in the kitchen. Tiles are often used for flooring but in kitchen, you can install tiles on the walls, counter, and backsplash. The kitchen floor tiles should be slip resistant, non-porous, sturdy, and resistant to stain and scratch. The tiles on the backsplash or walls should be easy to clean and resistant to food and grease stains.

Choosing tile size and shape

Determining the perfect size is another important factor in choosing kitchen tiles. Tiles are available in different sizes – from large format tiles to small mosaic tiles. Larger tiles are suitable for small kitchens because they create an illusion of space. They are also easier to fit and place. So, they are perfect if you have planned to install the tiles yourself. On the other hand, small tiles are excellent to create a visual interest and nice patterns.

Rectangular and square tiles are easier to install than tiles with irregular shapes. Smaller tiles are suitable for intricate backsplash and countertops. Larger ones are good for floor because they provide cleaner lines.

Budget and health concerns when choosing tile

The choice of tiles will also depend on your budget. Ceramic and porcelain tiles are the least expensive ones while it will take a fortune to cover your kitchen with granite or marble tiles. Glass and mosaic tiles can also be expensive if used for a bigger space. So, choose the type of tiles considering how much you can spend. Hygiene is also a factor while choosing tiles for the kitchen. Mould and mildew tend to form on the edge of the kitchen tiles. So, use an antibacterial grout while installing the tiles to prevent these things to grow. As larger tiles are easier to clean, mildew or mould cannot form on them easily.

As kitchen is probably the busiest spots in your home, the kitchen tiles should be functional besides being attractive.
